Angela Evelyn Bassett has been an American actress since late 1980s. Her work has earned her recognition by the media and for her television performances since the early 1980s. The awards she has won include the two Golden Globe Awards, sixteen NAACP Image Awards as well as nominations for Academy Awards and Primetime Emmy Awards. Bassett was born to her aunt in Winston-Salem North Carolina. She was born and grew up within New York New York. Her mother split with her father at about five. Her younger sister went to St. Petersburg Florida with their mother. Bassett chose to become an actress after she saw the play Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, starring James Earl Jones. Yale University New Haven Connecticut, where she received her bachelor's degree in African American and master's degrees (1983). Courtney B. Vance was also an actor at Yale.
